Has my employer followed a proper Health and Safety protocol?

If you want to find out if your employer has followed best practice Health & Safety procedures, there are some questions that you should ask yourself to identify possible gaps. These gaps will assist you if you intend to file a formal grievance for anything Health and Safety related. Breaches of these should be covered as further grievances within your main grievance.   • Did you have a proper induction when you joined the company?
  • Were you asked whether you have a disability for which they need to make reasonable adjustments?
  • Did your employer give you an employee handbook?
  • Were you told about emergency procedures for things like fire etc.?
  • Has the employer had a fire drill (sometimes only once or twice a year)?
  • Did your employer make you aware of your health and safety obligations?
  • Were you told of any potential ‘risks to your health‘?
  • Were you told what to do if you witnessed harassment or bullying?
  • Did you get any training on bullying, harassment and/or equalities when joining?
  • Have you had any probation reviews during your first 6 months? If not, why not?
  • Are you getting your performance regularly reviewed through formal appraisals?
  • Were you told how the company ensures their space is classed COVID-19 safe?
  • Have you been asked about the reasonable adjustments after initially joining the business?
  • Has the company conducted a risk assessment for stress levels within your working environment?
  • Have you received a copy of any risk assessments or been told how to request them? Were you or other employees involved?
