Detriment

A term used to describe the intentional negative treatment of an employee (or deliberate failure to act) short of dismissal that has a significant negative physical or economic impact on the employee. Typically experienced as punishment after trying to exercise statutory employment rights. Defined in Section 44 of the Employment Rights Act 1996.
